Workshop Series: Fragility of Democracy Series, Session 2

  • The Holocaust Center of Florida 851 N. Maitland Avenue Maitland, FL 32751 United States (map)

Myths, Money, and the Making of Blame

How does a nation come to believe the unbelievable?

When inflation wiped out savings and unrest filled the streets, lies became easy answers.

This session looks at how false narratives such as the “stab-in-the-back” myth, economic scapegoating, and antisemitic conspiracy turned neighbor against neighbor. Participants explore propaganda’s early roots and how collective pain became political fuel for hate.

Dr. Mark A. Winton  is part of UCF's Department of Criminal Justice since 2001. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and is a Florida-licensed mental health counselor, Certified Forensic Counselor, and National Certified Counselor.
